This element was based off an awesome song from Gungor titled “Beautiful Things.” We wanted to paint a picture of how God created each of us as beautiful things and when we become a Christ follower he makes us brand new creations. For the production of this shoot we had a second chance to use a piece of special lighting equipment that we built, known as a ring light. This DIY homemade ring light cost about $75 on material, and is worth every penny.

Dream to Reality: C3 Opener
This year’s opening video element for C3 2011 was an enormous project that was a final product of collaboration, inspiration, planning, and hard work.
As artists, we have to constantly be on the lookout for inspiration, whether it’s the way we feel when listening to a song, or the way the sun reflects off a puddle of mud. Ephesians 3:20 was the inspiration of C3 this year and so that’s where we began when planning this element. At the very base level, the idea for this piece is that because of our culture and nature, we live in a mindset of the measurable, so we too often attempt to measure an immeasurable God.
An early inspiration for this video was the motion tracking and art design of the opening sequence of the movie, “Stanger than Fiction.”
We could have just stopped there and attempted to rip off that concept, but we knew we wanted to do something bigger and unexpected. That’s when we decided that instead of the elements being motion tracked solely with the frame of the video, the video element could be projected onto a large scrim, and a live person would “interact” and “manipulate” with different elements, giving an almost hologram feel. Then our team began writing a script that would later become the road map for the animation.
